At Hazel Health, our work begins with a simple belief: Every child deserves access to care that helps them feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Across the country, students are facing mounting challenges related to mental health, physical well-being, and access to consistent care. In many cases, children who need someone to talk to are waiting months for help, or going without it entirely. We believe that is not acceptable.
Schools are often where these needs first surface, making school communities uniquely positioned to be part of the solution. Hazel is grateful to partner with schools across the country to make care accessible to every student who needs it. We know that when it comes to a child’s well-being, trust is not assumed, it’s earned. That is why our commitments are clear and unwavering.
Family choice comes first
We believe families should always decide what is right for their child. Hazel only provides services when a parent or legal caregiver gives consent. They choose whether their child receives care and can withdraw that consent at any time. Immigration status is never collected, and it is never a factor in accessing services. We never ask children or families to provide any location-identifying data at any point in a student’s care journey. We will only share address information with a family’s insurance provider for the purposes of confirming insurance eligibility.
When a student meets with a Hazel clinician, that conversation is private and protected, just as it would be in any healthcare setting. We treat every child with the dignity they deserve, and every family’s information with the highest level of confidentiality and care.
Protecting student privacy
Hazel Health is a licensed healthcare provider. Our work is guided by clinical standards, legal frameworks, community values, and the needs of students.
Protecting student privacy is foundational to our mission. All health information shared with a Hazel clinician is treated as private medical information. It is protected under federal and state laws, including HIPAA for healthcare providers, FERPA for students receiving services in school settings, as well as a variety of state and local laws and regulations.
We do not sell, license, or use any student’s personal information for advertising or data monetization. Student information is used only to support access to care, the well-being of students and families, and as otherwise permitted or required by law.
We also believe that trust is built through clarity and partnership. Families and school communities deserve to understand how care works, how information is safeguarded, and how services are coordinated. Hazel collaborates closely with school districts and welcomes questions from families and community organizations because accountability strengthens our work and ensures it reflects the values of the communities we serve.
Why access matters
Hazel is not intended to replace in-person school clinicians or community providers. Instead, our role is to expand access where needs are high and local capacity is stretched. We offer an additional layer of care so students do not wait weeks or months for help. Our clinicians maintain manageable caseloads supported by supervision, training, and clinical oversight, ensuring each student receives attentive, consistent, and compassionate care that complements – not replaces – existing school and community services.
For many students, talking to a Hazel clinician may be the first time they have been able to access care – often within days of requesting it, not weeks or months. Families often tell us their child had been struggling in silence; unable to get an appointment due to cost, waitlists, transportation, or lack of local providers. By connecting students to licensed therapists through their schools, we help remove those barriers and make support available quickly, at no cost to families.
When students receive timely care, they are more likely to return to class consistently, stay engaged, and avoid the escalation of mental health challenges into crises. Early support not only improves emotional well-being, it helps address chronic absenteeism, supports long-term mental health, and gives students the foundation they need to thrive in school and beyond.
Our promise
Hazel Health was founded with a clear purpose: to remove barriers to care so that every student can feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. That purpose guides every decision we make and every partnership we build.
We will continue to show up for students and families with compassion, clarity, and integrity. We will uphold the highest standards of privacy and clinical care, and we will work alongside families, educators, and communities to support student health.
Every student deserves to be supported. Every family deserves trust and respect. That is our promise.
